Residency Period: July-September 2014
Carlos Martiel (Havana, 1989) graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts, Havana in 2009. His work has been included in the Havana Biennial (2009); Pontevedra Biennial, Galicia (2010); Liverpool Biennial (2010); and Biennial La Otra, Bogota (2013). He has had solo exhibitions at the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo Wifredo Lam, Havana (2012); Museo Museum, Naples (2013); Axeneo 7, Montreal (2013); Galería Lux, Guatemala City (2013); and Steve Turner Contemporary, Los Angeles (2014).
Martiel’s residency is part of an ongoing partnership between Cannonball and the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO). During his residency, Martiel will create new work to be included in CIFO’s annual Grants and Commissions Program exhibition. Opening in early September, this year’s exhibition includes artists Pablo Accinelli (Argentina), Teresa Burga (Peru), Nayari Castillo (Venezuela), Claudia Joskowicz (Bolivia), Marcellvs L. (Brazil), Carlos Martiel (Cuba); Mateo Pizarro (Colombia), Adrian Regnier (Mexico), Rosângela Rennó (Brazil), and Antonieta Sosa (Venezuela).
